“Who’s Driving You?” That’s a question a lot of people are asking these days, especially with the rise of unregulated transportation companies like Uber and its amateur driver service uberX, as well as Lyft and Sidecar. The fact is, we don’t necessarily know who their drivers are. And, it turns out, they don’t really know either.
These companies have rolled into cities across the country and indeed around the world. They insist they shouldn’t be regulated. They insist they are merely technology companies.
Yet these companies are really taxis companies. They dispatch vehicles, take payments from passengers and pay their drivers. If that isn’t a taxi, then what is?
