More than 100 of Seattle’s UberX drivers turned in their company iPhones August 28 as they began to go on strike due to Uber’s 20 percent fare cut.
Driver representatives stated that Uber making it more difficult for them to earn a living—forcing them to work longer hours for the same pay.
Since Uber drivers are “independent contractors,” they cannot unionize. The drivers have formed the Seattle Ride-Share Drivers Association in an attempt to put more collective pressure on the company and get Uber to lowers its cut of their fares.
