In response to Uber, Lyft and Sidecar launching “ridesharing,” a blatant fiction that essentially provided taxi service while duplicitously avoiding costly safety requirements, the TLPA began a message campaign called ‘Who’s Driving You?’
The Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association is made up of small family-owned transportation businesses—mostly fleets of 30 to 50 vehicles.
From the outset, there was nothing hidden about our campaign. We openly stated who we are. And we’ve continually strived to show how Uber, Lyft and Sidecar’s underinvesting in safety requirements places the public at risk. Since our effort began, our message has continued to be borne out in reality.
Despite our criticism of Uber, Lyft and Sidecar, the industry welcomes new transportation services—as long as they follow the same safety rules.
But let’s be clear about who’s who. The total estimated value of every single taxicab fleet in the world is approximately $11 billion. Uber alone is worth $40 billion—more than three and a half times every taxicab company in existence on the planet combined.
So, who’s David and who’s Goliath?
